Our spies have sent us a new batch of shots with the next generation Volkswagen Touran caught undergoing testing in Germany.

Making the switch to the MQB platform, Volkswagen's third generation Touran is bound to lose some serious weight (up to 100 kg) even though the model is set to grow in size. Expect a stretched wheelbase granting more interior cabin room as well as a more generous trunk to haul all the family's cargo.

Although the prototype spotted here still wears a full body camouflage, it's easy to notice Volkswagen will retain the Touran's boxy shape but probably sharpen up the styling like they have been doing on all their latest models. You will notice the vehicle sports LED headlights but we assume these will be available as optional equipment although the daytime running lights could get LEDs on all variants.

The seventh generation Golf will provide the new Touran with several engines and it is expected the compact MPV will also be offered with a 4MOTION system. There are also talks about a new Cross Touran which will likely end up with an increased ride height, plastic body cladding and an all-wheel drive setup but don’t expect this derivative from day one.

Volkswagen will probably show us the 2015 Touran in October at the Paris Motor Show and it is believed the MPV will also reach stateside although we are still waiting for a confirmation.
