Czech marque Skoda has released a design sketch which serves as a teaser for the third generation Fabia set to come out in the following months.
Don't get too excited after seeing this design sketch as we all know how the 2015 Fabia will end up looking, a mashup of Skoda's Rapid and Octavia models on a smaller scale. Spy photos of prototypes have already showed the design will largely mimic the bigger Skodas which isn't necessarily a bad thing but some fans of the brand are expecting a more diversified design. The Fabia used to have its own visual identity (especially first-gen) but it seems VW has decided it's time for a change to a design closely in line with other VAG products.
The five-door hatchback will continue with a revised PQ25 platform instead of making the switch to Volkswagen's MQB which would have jacked up the price. Engines and gearboxes will be largely carried over from the facelifted Polo while a vRS version will not be launched due to slow demand. Body styles will include the usual hatchback and wagon but Skoda is also taking into consideration bringing back the sedan which skipped the outgoing second generation. However, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to have a Fabia Sedan since Skoda already has the Rapid to fill in that role.
An online reveal is expected in the next few weeks, with a public debut scheduled to occur in October at the Paris Motor Show. Sales should kick off towards the end of the year or early 2015.
