According to a recent report, Ferrari has patented an innovative electric steering technology.
EVO says the system will still use a direct mechanical steering linkage but software will reduce the inaccuracy and inconsistent feedback inherent in existing steering setups. This software will calculate the angle and torque applied to the steering wheel by the driver and will apply the necessary corrections to reduce the "transmission error". This error is explained as a small delay between the driver's input on the wheel and the response at the front wheels.
The magazine also claims the new system is simple, inexpensive and it wouldn’t add any extra weight, because it uses the existing steering hardware. The software on the other hand doesn’t require large processing power or large reserves of memory.
There is still no information if this new technology will ever reach future Ferrari road cars.
