Volkswagen has released some additional details about the facelifted Scirocco, which was officially presented during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
In terms of design, changes are limited to new front and rear sections including new headlights, new LED rear lights and new tailgate opening mechanism with swiveling VW emblem. The interior has gained new auxiliary instruments that “pays tribute to the original Scirocco", a Dynaudio Excite sound system, together with Blind Spot Monitor and ParkAssist options.
Recently demonstrated in front of media representatives in Germany, the sports vehicle comes with six updated TDI and TSI engines. The entry-level unit is a 1.4 TSI petrol with 125 PS (92 kW) (gains 3 PS/2 kW) with average fuel consumption of 5.4 l/100 km.
All the 2.0 TSI motors have also been upgraded and they now produce 180 PS (+20 PS) / 132 kW (+14.7 kW), 220 PS (+10 PS) / 162 kW (+7.4 kW) and 280 PS (+15 PS) / 206 kW (+11 kW) with the last one being mounted in the range-topping Scirocco R. This vehicle does the 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint in 5.5 seconds with the optional DSG gearbox.
Volkswagen has also tuned the 2.0 TDI in all its versions. This unit can now be had with 150 PS (+10 PS) / 110 kW (+7.4 kW) and 184 PS (+7 PS) / 135 kW (+5 kW). The 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration takes 8.6 seconds for the 150 PS version and 7.5 seconds for the 184 PS.
The market launch of the facelifted Scirocco in Europe is scheduled for August this year.
