The six millionth Audi with quattro all-wheel drive has rolled off the assembly line in Ingolstadt, Germany.

The model was a monsoon gray metallic SQ5 which is destined for an unnamed buyer in the United States.

Audi originally introduced quattro in 1980 and since then there have been approximately 170 different vehicles - including body styles and engine / transmission variants - equipped with the system.  Quattro still remains popular today as nearly 50 percent of all vehicles produced come equipped with it.

In a statement, Audi's Board Member for Production Dr. Hubert Waltl said “Dynamism and sportiness, the utmost technical precision and safety – that’s what Audi’s quattro technology stands for. More than 30 years ago, it was recognized as a pioneering accomplishment; today, it is synonymous with technical progress."
