Audi introduced the facelifted A8 less than a year ago but the company has already started development on the next-generation model.
Recently caught undergoing testing in the Alps, this chassis testing mule has modified bumpers, a low ride height and a plethora of testing equipment. Unfortunately this doesn't tell us much about the production model but it does suggest it could be roughly the same size as its predecessor.
Little is known about the model at this point but previous reports have indicated it could ride on a lightweight platform that uses aluminum, high-strength steel and composite materials. The model is also expected to feature an autonomous driving system similar to the one introduced in 2013. That particular system used two radar sensors, eight ultrasonic sensors and a wide-angle video camera to steer, accelerate and brake the car at speeds between 0 and 60 km/h (37 mph).
