AMG powertrain boss Jochen Martin Schmid has revealed the company is considering electric turbochargers.

Speaking to Drive, Schmid said “There are many companies looking into this technology right now and it is something we will investigate at some time to see the benefits."

While he declined to name names, Audi has been a key proponent of e-turbos and recently revealed the RS5 TDI concept which featured a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine with a "supplemental electric turbocharger." This enabled the diesel-powered coupe to produce 385 PS (283 kW) and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque from just 1,250 to 2,000 rpm.

While Audi is expected to introduce e-turbo engines on the 2015 / 2016 Q7, Schmid seemed to suggest AMG is only thinking about the technology at this point.
