Vauxhall’s Ian Mitchell has confirmed a hot VXR version of the new Corsa will arrive in 2015

Vauxhall’s Ian Mitchell has confirmed a hot VXR version of the new Corsa will arrive in 2015.

Speaking to Auto Express, he assured the Opel Corsa OPC, sold under the Vauxhall Corsa VXR nameplate in the UK, is deep into development and will arrive next year. “We’d like to do one, there’s such a following for it we’d be crazy not to do it, there’s definitely a strong case. You might be seeing something next year”.

This is the first time we hear something about the sports hatch and the report says Cascada’s 1.6-liter SIDI direct-injection turbo engine is likely a candidate for the sporty Corsa. With 200 HP (147 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) this unit will be powerful enough for the car to rival the likes of the Ford Fiesta ST and the Renault Clio RS.

The regular 2015 Corsa was recently spotted in both three- and five-door guises. It is believed the vehicle will be revealed online on July 10.
