According to a recent report, a spiritual successor to the MG TF has been confirmed for production.
In April 2013 Guy Jones, head of sales and marketing for MG UK, said such a car "is in the product plan, and we hope it will happen”, but an exact timeframe was not agreed.
While there is still no official launch date, Auto Express says the car should be on sale well before the end of this decade. An MG insider told AE the company wants to create the open-top sports car as soon as it has re-established itself under SAIC ownership.
Details about the car are still scarce, but it is believed it will be based on an all new architecture. A 1.5-liter and a 2.0-liter turbo petrol engines will likely be offered. These two units will be developed by Chinese-based SAIC’s UK Technical Centre. TF successor will reportedly have a rear wheel drive layout, while the engine will be front-mounted.
