BMW M GmbH's Jörg Bartels recently revealed the company would not produce an M4 GranCoupe but that doesn't mean they're done adding new M models.

Speaking to CarAdvice, Bartels said the company is still open to an X1 M to battle the Audi RS Q3 and Mercedes GLA 45 AMG. While he was careful not to confirm or deny the model, he hinted the company "will see how Audi and Mercedes go with that."

If BMW were to produce an X1 M, it would likely arrive after the next-generation model is introduced in 2015. This would give Audi and Mercedes a big head start but we're sure BMW could come up with an interesting alternative to the established competitors.
