Opel has announced the Astra GTC can now be equipped with the company's new 1.6-liter CDTI engine.

Designed to replace the previous 1.7-liter unit, the 1.6-liter CDTI engine produces 136 PS (100 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 7 PS (5 kW) and 20 Nm (14 lb-ft). Thanks to the extra oomph, the model can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 10.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 198 km/h (123 mph).

Besides being faster than its predecessor, the Astra GTC 1.6 CDTI is also more fuel efficient thanks to an engine start/stop system and an improved six-speed manual transmission. This enables the hatchback to average 4.1 L/100km (57.3 mpg US / 68.9 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 109 g/km

The Astra GTC 1.6 CDTI is currently available to order and German pricing starts at €24,390 (including VAT).
