The laser light war between Audi and BMW continues even after the latter company delivered the first production model with the innovative lighting technology.

While Audi originally claimed their R8 LMX would become the "world's first production car with laser high beams," they were beaten to the punch by BMW who delivered the first i8s last week. The four-ringed brand has now changed their tune and rebranded the R8 LMX as the "fastest series car with a laser beam [headlights]."

Audi's latest claim should be true as the R8 LMX has a 5.2-liter V10 engine that develops 570 PS (419 kW) and 540 Nm (398 lb ft) of torque. This enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph) which is faster than the i8 that runs from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and tops out at 250 km/h (155 mph).
