Toyota Managing Officer Hiroyoshi Yoshiki has revealed the company is working on a car that hovers.

In an interview with The Verge, Yoshiki said the idea is being worked on by one of their "most advanced" research and development departments but the system would only enable a vehicle to be a "little bit away" from the road. This would enable the model to have an extremely low rolling resistance which would improve fuel efficiency but likely reduce traction.

There's no word on how the system works or whether the company ever plans to bring it to production but we might learn more in the future.
