BMW is putting the finishing touches on the 2-Series Convertible as our spies have caught a lightly camouflaged prototype undergoing testing in Europe.
Set to battle the Audi A3 Cabrio, the 2-Series Convertible closely echoes the coupe but eschews the fixed roof for a power retraceable soft top that will likely cause some pretty big blind spots.
Our spies couldn't get close enough to snap interior photos but the cabin will likely be virtually identical to the coupe. This means we can expect entry-level variants to be equipped cloth seats and satin silver trim. However, options should include Dakota leather upholstery, aluminum or wood trim and a 6.5- or 8.8-inch iDrive display.
Engine options will carryover from the 2-Series Coupe so expect a variety of powerplants including:
- A 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder with outputs of 184 PS (135 kW) and 245 PS (180 kW)
- A 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo inline-six with 326 PS (240 kW) and 450 Nm (322 lb-ft) of torque
- A 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder diesel with outputs of 143 PS (105 kW), 184 PS (135 kW) and 218 PS (160 kW)
