Mitsubishi has unveiled the MiEV Evolution III, ahead of its debut at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Designed to compete in the Electric Modified Division, the MiEV Evolution III is being billed as an "evolved version" of last year's MiEV Evolution II. As a result, the powertrain mostly carries over but the car features numerous modifications to reduce weight and improve cornering performance. Notable changes include a new carbon fiber cowl, an optimized spoiler, larger tires and an upgraded Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system which promises to increase traction and reduce wheel slippage.

Power is provided by four electric motors that produce a combined maximum output of 603 bhp (450 kW). They are powered by a 50 kWh battery which should ensure the model has enough juice to tackle the grueling course.

Two cars will compete in this year's race and they will be driven by Hiroshi Masuoka and Greg Tracy.
