The second generation Skoda Roomster has been caught on camera for the first time by our spy photographers.

It was only several days ago when we shared spy pictures depicting the next-gen Volkswagen Touran and now its more affordable Czech sibling was spied undergoing testing. The prototype seen here was spotted in the Swiss Alps carrying a stretched body version of the outgoing Touran. Both cars will ride on Volkswagen Group's MQB platform so depending on the version there will be significant weight savings, with up to 220 lbs (100 kg) in the case of the Touran.

While the second-gen Skoda Roomster is heading to Europe, the new Volkswagen Touran could also make it stateside although at this point this is only a rumor. Both of them will go on sale sometime in 2015 but could be revealed before the end of this year.
