Chevrolet has announced U.S. pricing details for the 2015 Impala Bi-Fuel which can run on compressed natural gas (CNG).

The vehicle is scheduled to go on sale later this year and has a starting price of 38,210 USD which includes the 825 USD destination charges but doesn't take into account the tax, title, license and dealer fees. Chevrolet says those who will purchase the car will benefit from almost 1.25 USD fuel savings per gasoline-gallon-equivalent.

The 2015 Impala Bi-Fuel is offered exclusively with a hardened 3.6-liter engine with improved wear resistance since the motor has to work in conjunction with a CNG fuel system. The compressed natural gas tank will be installed in the trunk and will offer the equivalent capacity of 7.8 gallons of gas, enough for a CNG range of 150 miles (241 km) in the city and a total range of 500 miles (804 km).

Chevrolet's engineers have configured the Impala Bi-Fuel to run primarily on CNG and once the compressed natural gas is depleted, the car will automatically start working on gasoline. There's a button on the dashboard which will allow owners to switch fuels while driving, without interrupting the vehicle's performance.

It will be produced in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada and Chevrolet will offer a three-year / 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty (including the CNG system) and a five-year / 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, whichever comes first.
