MINI just unveiled the redesigned Cooper but Edmunds is reporting work has already begun on the next-generation model.

Slated to arrive in 2020, the next-generation Cooper will reportedly be more advanced than its predecessors. The specifics are still kind of murky at this point but the website says the car could use "high-tech materials." That's pretty vague but Edmunds implies the car could benefit from BMW's love affair with carbon fiber.

Sources have also suggested we can expect smaller engines and possibly an electric variant. Little is known about the latter model but the company has previously offered the MINI E and appears to be working on a MINI E Race Coupe.
