Mercedes' head of research and development has revealed the company could offer a coupe-like version of the GLA.

Speaking to Automotive News, Thomas Weber said the 2016 MLC could spawn a family of "on-road" crossovers that feature sporty styling derived from the Concept Coupe SUV. While we've already heard rumors about a BMW X4 competitor, which would presumably be based on the next-generation GLK, Weber suggested the company could also offer a crossover coupe based on the GLA.

There's no word on when the model could arrive but it would likely be heavily influenced by the standard GLA. This means there could be a variety of different petrol and diesel engines with outputs ranging from 136 HP (100 kW) to 211 HP (155 kW).
