According to Automotive News, the concept "closely previews" an upcoming production model that will be based on the next-generation Jetta. Additional information is limited but the car is expected to ride on the MQB platform and be launched in 2016. The model could also be offered in a variety of markets as production is slated to occur in China and Puebla, Mexico.

As a refresher, the NMC concept is a sporty four-door coupe that measures 4,597mm long, 1,838mm wide and 1,422mm tall. The model also had a 220 PS (162 kW) 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine which enabled it to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 6.5 seconds and hit a top speed of 151 mph (244 km/h).
