Daimler and BYD have officially unveiled the Denza electric vehicle at the Beijing Motor Show.

The stylistically challenged five-door hatchback will be available in two different trim levels and the entry-level Lifestyle variant come nicely equipped with leather seats, wood trim, a touchscreen infotainment system and 18-inch alloy wheels. Moving up to the Executive variant rewards buyers with xenon headlights, a Harman/Kardon audio system and GPS navigation.

Motivation is provided by a 47.5 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery which powers an electric motor that develops115 bhp (86 kW) and 290 Nm (214 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the model hit a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and travel up to 300 km (186 miles) on a single charge. When the battery is depleted, it can be recharged in seven hours with a household outlet or less than an hour with a rapid charging wall box.

According to Daimler China CEO Hubertus Troska, “Daimler is constantly moving forward with emission-free mobility and with our DENZA we are also on the right track in China, which is destined to become the world’s most important market for electric vehicles."

The Denza will go on sale in China this September and pricing starts at RMB 369,000 ($59,250 / €42,890) before incentives of up to RMB 120,000 ($19,270 / €13,950).
