Mazda has revealed the chassis of its highly anticipated next generation MX-5 Miata, thus confirming a report we published almost a month ago.

Debuting today in New York alongside a 25th Anniversary Edition is the SKYACTIV-CHASSIS of the next generation MX-5 Miata which Mazda says will go back to its roots by adopting a smaller and lighter footprint.

Speaking of lightness, the roadster will lose more than 100 kg (220 lbs) and will be more powerful compared to the outgoing model. Details are scarce at the moment but Mazda says the reimagined Miata will have a lower center of gravity together with an increased body rigidity and will be safer in case of a collision.

Mazda hasn't said anything about a launch date but most likely the all-new MX-5 Miata will be revealed before the end of the year, with sales commencing sometime in 2015.
