Chevrolet has announced the first 2015 Corvette Z06 Coupe has been sold for $1 million (€723,380) at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Florida.

The winning bid was submitted by Rick Hendrick who has previously bought the first 2014 Corvette Stingray Coupe, the first 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible and the first 2012 Camaro ZL1.

The proceeds from the auction will benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute's infusion center which aims to provide a "more comfortable and soothing setting for patients to receive chemotherapy treatments."

In a statement, GM President Dan Ammann said "We thank Rick Hendrick for his ongoing, generous support that will help Karmanos Cancer Institute provide better care and treatment for cancer patients. We are humbled by all those who are supporting the Annual Dinner and who are giving generously to help us exceed last year's fundraising total of $2.5 million."
