Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski has revealed the company is considering a compact rear-wheel drive sedan to battle the BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class.

Speaking to Edmunds, Zuchowski said the Genesis' $38,000 price tag "creates a little space" for a model to slot beneath it. As he explained, "If you just look at a pricing ladder, it opens up some opportunities." He went on to say "We think there is an opportunity for us in the BMW 3-Series space."

While Zuchowski stopped short of confirming plans for production, he suggested the model could be at least four to five years off if it is green-lighted.
