Bentley has officially announced plans to offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It will arrive in 2017.
Bentley has officially announced plans to offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
The company declined to go into details but CEO Wolfgang Schreiber said "In 2016 we will offer the first SUV in the luxury sector and one year later we will bring plug-in-hybrid technology into the luxury market." Schreiber declined to say what model will be outfitted with the plug-in hybrid system but he has previously suggested it will debut on the company's upcoming crossover.
There's no word on specifications but Schreiber has previously said "We will see hybrid versions of all of our cars." This means we can expect the plug-in hybrid powertrain will eventaully be added to rest of Bentley's lineup.
While it remains unclear if buyers are interested in plug-in hybrids Bentleys, Schreiber said "The luxury car market is not static. We will continue to make sure that Bentley will meet the changing needs of our discerning customers."
