Bentley has disclosed plans to increase production of the W12 engine from the end of 2014 onwards.

While almost all carmakers out there are downsizing, Bentley is staying true to its roots as the company has announced production of the massive W12 engine will be increased. Right now they make around 5,000 units each year but that number will grow to around 9,000 engines by 2017-2018. Bentley will start exporting engines for the first time in the company's history and to ramp up production they will need to hire 100 people at Crewe.

Coinciding with this announcement is a teaser photo published by Bentley today of its upcoming SUV due in 2016 which will use the W12. Audi and Volkswagen will get more of these engines and Bentley will use them in their Continental GT/GTC and Flying Spur models.
