According to a recent report, BMW doesn't think the 2-Series Active Tourer will be very successful in the United States.

Despite their less than ambitious sales projections, the company will still offer the model in America. However, a U.S. launch is expected to be at least 15 months away.

Speaking with Automotive News, BMW's Frank Niederlaender downplayed the models chances of success by saying Americans don't like hatchbacks and the 2-Series Active Tourer is likely too small to appeal to a majority of U.S. buyers. Interestingly, BMW had similar fears about the X1 but that particular model has proved highly successful.
