New details have emerged about the Alfa Romeo Spider scheduled to come out sometime next year.

Developed alongside the highly anticipated next-gen Mazda MX-5, Alfa Romeo's Spider revival is scheduled for a 2015 market launch and according to Car & Driver it will be powered by Fiat's 4-cylinder, 1.4-liter MultiAir Intercooled Turbo engine. The same motor can be found inside the Dodge Dart where it delivers 160 bhp (119 kW) and also in the Fiat 500 Abarth where it has the same amount of horsepower.

The engine's torque is rated at 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) in the Dart and 152 lb-ft (206 Nm) in the 500 Abarth, while in the Alfa Romeo both horsepower and torque figures will most likely receive a minor hike.

The Alfa Romeo Spider nameplate has not been confirmed but rumors are indicating the vehicle will receive the "2C" moniker, although we beg to differ since the 8C has eight cylinders and the 4C has four. Anyway, we do know for sure the car will be produced by Mazda in Japan and it is believed the MX-5 will come out first.
