This winter has been particularly brutal in the United States, so Buick has decided to take the opportunity to promote the optional all-wheel drive system on the 2014 Regal.

Available on models equipped with the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine - that produces 259 bhp (193 kW) and 295 lb-ft (399 Nm) of torque - the system actively distributes power front to rear and side to side. The system typicalically has a 50/50 split but the Sport and GS Interactive Drive Control modes in the Regal GS heightens the sensitivity of the all-wheel drive system and sends up to 15 percent more torque to the rear wheels.

According to engineer James Walter, “With power going to all four wheels and the ability to transfer power to the wheel with the most grip, we’ve helped enable the driver to have maximum control on all surfaces. This system is constantly monitoring several inputs and anticipating action. It can be very beneficial in keeping the rear of the car balanced during an emergency maneuver.”
