The Fiat 500 was introduced nearly seven years ago but new details are starting to emerge about the next-generation model.

According to Auto Express, the redesigned model will be launched in 2016 and feature a sportier exterior with retro styling cues. The magazine goes on to say the model will be longer and wider than its predecessor and adopt LED-infused headlights.

The interior is expected to draw cues from the 2004 Trepiuno concept and feature a digital instrument cluster and a "large" touchscreen infotainment system that virtually eliminates all buttons. Despite being significantly more high-tech, the cabin is expected to retain its retro colored trim.

Engine options will likely carryover but feature minor modifications for improved performance and reduced fuel consumption.
