Our spies have already caught the 2015 Mazda MX-5 on numerous occasions but new details are starting to emerge about the upcoming roadster.

According to Motoring's sources, the redesigned model will hearken back to the original which was introduced 25 years ago. As part of the transformation, the car is expected to feature an oval grille and a new interpretation of the company's Kodo design language. That's pretty vague but the source said it's "definitely a design that current owners will want to update to."

Engine options remain unconfirmed but the model could feature a 1.5-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder engine. The mill produces 100 HP (74 kW) and 150 Nm (110 lb-ft) of torque in the Mazda3 but it will reportedly be upgraded for use in the roadster.

Despite the possibility of a lackluster engine, the MX-5 is expected to be extremely lightweight as previous reports have indicated it could tip the scales at just one tonne (2204 lbs).
