According to a recent report, the Smart ForFour might be not offered in the United States.

Speaking to Automotive News, Smart CEO Annette Winkler said a decision hasn't been made about U.S. availability but the model hasn't been homologated for the American market. She went on to say the company isn't sure there would be enough demand to justify homologating for the United States.

The news will likely annoy Smart dealers but Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon says the brand is a niche player and the ForFour would only increase sales to 20,000 units annually in the United States. Despite this, Smart isn't going away anytime soon as the company doesn't want to compensate dealers for a U.S. exit.
