Mercedes-Benz design chief Gorden Wagener is describing the upcoming AMG GT as being "the most beautiful car" to wear the three-pointed star.

A couple of days ago we heard Mercedes' Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Ola Källenius saying the upcoming AMG GT (name not final) will be "pure sport" rather than "sport luxury." Now, Mercedes-Benz design chief Gorden Wagener says the model is going to be "the most beautiful car we've ever designed."

Wagener says those who had the opportunity to see the car have compared it to the legendary Jaguar E-Type but he believes the AMG GT "has more timeless classical lightness to it." Sources close to Mercedes-Benz's design team have also revealed the vehicle will be so low in such a way "that it has no lines at all on the side profile."

Reports are indicating the model will be introduced on July 20 at the 2014 German Formula 1 Grand Prix and will utilize a V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo engine (rumored to have about 493 bhp) which has already been confirmed for the next-gen C63 AMG. The engine is the result of combining two 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged motors taken from the AMG versions of the A-Class lineup (A45, CLA45, GLA45).
