Porsche's powertrain and transmission boss has revealed some new details about the entry-level Macan.

Speaking to Auto Express, Dr Thomas Casper said the crossover will gain a four-cylinder petrol engine "sometime in 2014, perhaps at the end.” Casper declined to go into specifics but said the model will be a "proper Porsche" and having a sporty exhaust note is a “top priority."

There's no word on specifications but previous reports have indicated the entry-level model will use a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with approximately 220 bhp (164 kW). The engine could eventually be offered in the Boxster and Cayman but nothing is official as of yet.
