Skoda has announced the Fabia S2000 will be replaced by an all-new Fabia R5.

Details are limited but the company confirmed an "intense development program" will begin early next year in order to have the car ready for competition in 2015. Little else is known about the model but it will have a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine to comply with FIA regulations.

According to Dr. Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Management for Technical Development at Skoda, “Through the many international successes it has enjoyed, the current Fabia Super 2000 has been demonstrating our technical prowess for years. The challenge is now to follow on from this success. That is why we are working flat out to develop a new car, based on the Skoda Fabia, for the R5 category.”
