Rumors about a BMW M8 have been circulating for years but a new report is indicating the model will finally be launched in 2016.

Citing anonymous sources, Autobild says the M8 will likely be based on the i8 and feature a twin-turbo V8 engine that develops 600 HP (441 kW). Additional information is limited but the magazine says the i8's carbon fiber passenger cell could enable the M8 to weigh less than 1500 kg (3307 lbs).

Nothing is official but previous reports have indicated the car could accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 3 seconds and hit a top speed of roughly 200 mph (322 km/h).
