The next generation of the Subaru Legacy and Outback were spied undergoing testing in Europe, ahead of next year's reveal as a 2015MY.

A couple of weeks ago we saw Subaru's superb Legacy concept at the Los Angeles Auto Show but we won't get our hopes up too high as far as the production version is concerned. Many were disappointed with the WRX production version after seeing the gorgeous concept, a situation which could happen again with the Legacy.

Seen here is not only the Legacy sedan but also the Outback version which are likely to receive a significantly toned down design. The prototypes were seen in Europe featuring a rectangular front grille, C-shaped taillights and the firm's well-known symmetrical all-wheel drive setup.

The entry-level 2.5i model is likely to retain its 173 bhp (129 kW) output and six-speed standard manual gearbox with the option of selecting a CVT. Rumors suggest the 2.5GT will be brought back to life with a turbocharged 2.0-liter from the 2014 Forester where it generates 250 bhp (186 kW). A hybrid model is also in the works and will likely serve as a replacement for the six-cylinder 3.6R version.

We don't have photos of the interior cabin but it's likely both models will receive improved materials and a less cluttered layout of the dashboard.
