Nissan global product chief Andy Palmer told CAR a Nismo-prepared version of the second-gen Qashqai is in the works.

The paint on the new Qashqai has just started to dry and there are already talks about a more powerful Nismo version which will sit on top of the range. Info about a launch date has not been disclosed but Nissan's global product chief Andy Palmer has revealed some preliminary details about the hotter Qashqai.

He mentions the Qashqai Nismo will be more powerful than the Juke Nismo which packs 197 bhp (147 kW) and 249 Nm (184 lb-ft) from a 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter DOHC turbocharged gasoline engine. Andy Palmer did not exclude the possibility of seeing the uprated 215 bhp (157 kW) version of the engine from the Juke Nismo RS to find its way under the hood of the Qashqai Nismo.

Aside from receiving more power, the more potent Qashqai Nismo will get other updates and tweaks to improve ride and handling, with the ultimate purpose of being a more fun to drive car.

The Nissan Qashqai Nismo could be revealed before the end of next year.
