Yamaha and Gordon Murray Design have teamed up to unveil the MOTIV.e city car at the Tokyo Motor Show.

Looking like a futuristic Smart ForTwo, the MOTIV.e is a lightweight electric vehicle that has plastic body panels and seating for two passengers.

Motivation is provided by an 8.8 kWh lithium-ion battery which powers an electric motor that develops a peak output of 34 HP (25 kW) and 896 Nm (660 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the 730 kg (1,609 lb) MOTIV.e to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 15 seconds, hit a top speed in excess of 105 km/h (65 mph) and travel more than 160 km (100 miles) on a single charge. When the battery is depleted, it can be fully recharged in approximately 1 hour with a quick charger or 3 hours with a household outlet.
