Jaguar has finally revealed the coupe version of the F-Type which will be available in a high-performance R version right from the start.
It will be offered in the same base and S versions as the open-top version powered by a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged engine rated at 340 HP / 450 Nm in the entry-level model and 380 HP / 460 Nm in the S version. The base model completes the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) task in 5.1 seconds before hitting a top speed of 161 mph (259 km/h) while the S version needs 4.9s until 60 mph en route to 171 mph (275 km/h).
The crown jewel of the F-Type Coupe range will be the new R version equipped with a V8 5.0-liter supercharged engine taken from the XKR-S and XFR-S models. The engine churns 550 HP (404 kW) and 680 Nm (501 lb-ft) which is enough to enable a 0-60 mph run in just four seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h).
The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe benefits from the firm's second-gen Electronic Active differential (EAD) working together with a new "Torque Vectoring by braking system." These two have improved the vehicle's handling by automatically redistributing the engine torque between the rear wheels and by intelligently applying braking force to the inner wheels as necessary.
The S and R versions are optionally available with carbon ceramic matrix (CCM) brakes which are 21 kg (46 lbs) lighter than the standard braking kit. All three F-Type coupes come with a close-ratio, eight-speed Quickshift transmission with full manual sequential control from either the central SportShift selector or from the paddles mounted on the steering wheel.
Jaguar UK says the F-Type Coupe has a starting price of 51,235 GBP and is followed by the S version at 60,235 GBP which means the two are 7,285 GBP cheaper than the equivalent F-Type Roadster. The range-topping F-Type R Coupe begins at 85,000 GBP. Sales are programmed to commence next March.
