Our spies have already snapped photos of the 2015 BMW X1 and a new report is indicating it will eventually spawn a three-door X2.

According to Autobild, the X2 will be launched in 2016 and be based on the UKL platform which underpins the 2014 MINI Cooper.

Little else is known about the model but engine options would presumably be shared with the X1. This means choices could include the company's new 1.5-liter TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder engine. There's no word on what the engines would be rated at but the MINI Cooper's petrol engine produces 134 bhp (100 kW) and 170 lb-ft (230 Nm) of torque, while the diesel develops 114 bhp (85 kW) and 199 lb-ft (269 Nm) of torque. There could also be more powerful variants as BMW has previously said the engine is capable of producing up to 224 HP (165 kW) on the petrol side and 184 HP (135 kW) on the diesel side.
