Polaris has announced the airless tires will be available starting next month on the Sportsman WV850 H.O. ATV.

Back in March we heard from Polaris their plans of putting into production airless tires and it will finally happen in December when the Sportsman WV850 H.O. ATV will effectively go on sale. The non-pneumatic (NPT) tire will equip the ATV and will be able to cover 350 miles (563 km) even after being hit directly by a .50 caliber round. It will also travel for around 1,000 miles (1,609 km) after running over a railroad spike.

It's all possible thanks to the inner structure of the tire which has a mesh design and supports the weight of the vehicle but at the same time it remains flexible enough to soak up the unevenness of the road. It still has a rubber outer tread which can have different tread patterns to better suit specific applications.

Polaris says these tires – which were in fact developed by Resilient Technologies – provide a more comfortable ride and they also reduce noise, while being less wasteful taking into account the owner will have to replace only the aforementioned outer tread.

The Sportsman WV850 H.O. ATV is set to go on sale in December in limited quantities at a starting price of 14,999 USD.
