A McLaren representative has denied the company's intentions of launching a C-segment model with a carbon fiber monocoque.

Earlier this week, McLaren designer Frank Stephenson said he would like a Volkswagen Golf competitor with a carbon fiber monocoque to see the light of day sometime in the future. However, that won't happen as a McLaren representative told InAutoNews that what Stephenson said was "more on a joke tone" and there are "no plans to create and build a car in the C-segment."

The same person said a sub MP4-12C model will be launched in 2015 at a "lower price point (top-end Porsche 911 / Audi R8)". He was referring to the P13 (name not confirmed) which will be smaller than the MP4-12C and will weigh less than 1,434 kg (3,161 lbs). The car will reportedly be offered with a 3.8-liter V8 rated at approximately 450 bhp (335 kW) and a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Performance-wise, expect the new entry-level McLaren to do 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in less than four seconds, on its way to a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h).

Pricing is rumored to kick off at 120,000 GBP (about 142,000 EUR / 193,000 USD). A convertible version should follow in 2016.
