A hotter “GTA” version of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta could be in the works with the engine taken from the 4C.
Alfa Romeo launched a modest facelift for the Giulietta last month at Frankfurt Motor Show but there could be more changes in tow as Auto Express says the automaker’s European head of Product Marketing Alberto Cavaggioni hinted at a more powerful version to sit above the 232 HP 1750 TBi Cloverleaf.
To be more specific, Alfa Romeo could decide to revive the GTA moniker for a high-performance Giulietta which will use the 4C’s 4-cylinder 1.75-liter engine but modified to produce more than the 240 HP (177 kW) available in the rear-wheel drive two-seater coupe.
Cavaggioni confirmed Alfa Romeo plans on updating the 4C on a regular basis and implied a significant update could be launched in 2014 that could include shaving off some weight of an already light car as the 4C tips the scales at just 895 kg (1,973 lbs).
