Porsche has filed a patent application for a unique headrest-mounted wind deflector.

Designed for use on convertibles, the wind deflector attaches and detaches from the headrest by using "lateral connecting elements" that have an integrated attachment hook. Despite sounding rather complex, the system allows owners to easily install or remove the deflectors without tools.

The deflector itself consists of a "shell with a rear wall that extends around the headrest" to reduce drafts and prevent buffeting. Two different designs are shown, so it remains unclear which one is more effective.

There's no word on when the headrest-mounted wind deflectors could be introduced but the application was filed last December and references an earlier German application from 2011.
