Elon Musk is the new owner of the Lotus Esprit submarine from The Spy Who Loved Me and he has some impressive plans for the famous movie car.

It was sold through RM Auctions last month and the buyer's identity was a secret until Jalopnik managed to find out it was Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk who was willing to pay 866,000 USD.

Impressed as a kid when seeing the car in the movie simply transform into a submarine by a press of a button, Musk was disappointed when he found out the Esprit wasn't really capable of this transformation. Now he wants to fix this by turning the 1977 Bond car into a real submersible vehicle.

Aside from the major and ambitious conversion, the Bond Esprit will receive an electric powertrain courtesy of the know-how provided by Tesla Motors.

We have attached Elon Musk's brief statement in the press release section.
