2013 continues to be a sad year for motorsport as Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland driver Sean Edwards has been killed in Australia.

The 26-year-old was attending a private driver training event, at the Queensland Raceway, where he was acting as an instructor. While he was in the passenger seat, a 20-year-old driver lost control and crashed into the barricades which started a fire. The driver was eventually rescued but Edwards succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement, Porsche said the news has sparked "immense regret" as "Edwards has for many years been one of the most popular and successful pilots in the Porsche one-make race series." Porsche Motorsport Head Hartmut Kristen added, “Our thoughts are with his family and we want to express our deepest condolences to his relatives."
