The Audi S8 isn't lacking anything in the performance department but buyers looking for something more powerful will likely be disappointed.

In an interview with Car & Driver, quattro GmbH chief engineer Stephan Reil dismissed the possibility of an RS8. As he explained, “any RS would need to offer 20- to 25-percent more power than the same model in S guise. And in this light, an RS8 or RS A8 would not make sense.” The lunatics at AMG would beg to differ but Audi doesn't feel the need for a range-topping sedan with 625-650 HP (460-478 kW).

In related news, the magazine says the Nanuk concept was created because Ferdinand Piëch liked the Italdesign Giugiaro Parcour concept and wanted an Audi version. While Piëch normally gets what he wants, sources say a production version has been ruled out.
