A mule of the Fiat 500X / Jeep Junior has been captured on camera undergoing testing ahead of a possible 2014 market launch.

The car was dressed in Fiat 500L clothing but with an increased ride height which gives away its all-wheel drive capabilities. It's a bit weird that Fiat is still hiding the car's design since earlier this year in June they provided a sneak preview of the 500X during the 500L's media launch in Turn, Italy.

Engine lineup of both models will probably be borrowed from the 500L which means they will be offered with a TwinAir Turbo 0.9-liter delivering 105 HP (74 kW) and a larger MultiAir Turbo 1.4-liter outputting 160 HP (119 kW). The crossover duo will also be available with a MultiJet II 1.6-liter turbodiesel rated at 105 HP (74 kW).

Production will commence sometime next year at Fiat's Melfi plant where they will make around 1,600 units of both versions. The Jeep Junior is likely to go on sale first, followed by its Italian cousin shortly after.
