A few days ago, we can across some mysterious patent photos of what was believed to be a hardcore Ferrari FF. However, Autocar has done some legwork and discovered that the pictures closely match up with the California. Given their discovery, they believe the photos show the next-generation California which could be introduced as early as next year.

California prototypes have already been caught undergoing testing, so the report seems to make sense especially when you consider the photos appear to show a retractable hardtop. Regardless, the images suggest the car will have an FF-inspired front fascia with angular headlights and a ventilated hood. We can also see a distinctive rear end with a prominent diffuser and a four-tailpipe exhaust system.

Power will reportedly come from the company's twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 engine that debuted in the Maserati Quattroporte. It produces 530 HP (390 kW) and 710 Nm (542 lb-ft) of torque but we wouldn't be surprised if Ferrari managed to free up a few extra ponies for one of their own models.
